Losercore Playlist: The Spotify Playlist Behind the Meme

What the losercore playlist is, who made it, why TikTok keeps posting it, and how to turn yourself into a losercore character.

Last updated: 2026-10-20

What is the losercore playlist?

The losercore playlist is a Spotify playlist of moody alternative rock about loneliness, sadness and feeling left out. It was made by the Spotify users depay178 and d, and by early October 2026 it had more than 187,000 saves.

Most people never found it through Spotify. They found it through TikTok, where one account kept advertising it until the ads themselves became the meme.

How the losercore playlist meme started

  • June 5, 2026: TikTok user @user406398991 posts the first video promoting the playlist.
  • June 9, 2026: a slideshow of their five favorite losercore songs passes 1.3 million views over the next four months.
  • September 2026: the account switches to AI-generated animations with a retro, PlayStation 2 look.
  • October 5–7, 2026: three of those animations pass 700,000, 830,000 and 910,000 views within days. People start reposting them on X to make fun of them.
  • October 8, 2026: Know Your Meme adds an entry for the meme.

Why the losercore playlist TikToks look like that

The ads always use the same small cast:

  • The beanie guy. A sad, low-poly guy in a beanie and flannel who insists he is only interested in music.
  • The blue man and the pink woman. A couple who never leave each other's side, based on the cover of TV Girl's 2016 album Who Really Cares.

The scenes are deliberately awkward: stiff animation, muddy textures, empty gas stations at sunset, the loser waving at a couple who don't notice him. That look is what people now call losercore.

What music is on it?

The playlist leans on sad indie and alternative rock. Artists and songs that keep showing up around the meme include:

  • TV Girl, the band that inspired the couple characters and gets tagged in the ads.
  • wifiskeleton, also tagged by the account.
  • "Insomniac" by Memo Boy, the sound used in many of the TikToks.
  • "The Love I Lost" by Fried By Fluoride, used in other TikToks.

The exact tracklist changes as the playlist is edited. To see the current songs, search for losercore on Spotify and open the playlist by depay178 and d.

Why do people call it "burger"?

On TikTok, comments under the ads often just say the playlist is "burger", and #burger keeps showing up with "loser core playlist needs to stop bro". It is less a description of the music than a running joke in the comments.

Why some people hate it

Critics call the videos AI slop and joke that the "lonely loser" somehow has a full social life. On October 7, 2026, artist @antdoe13 posted their old TV Girl fan art next to the AI couple and asked why it had been used. The account has not publicly responded.
